St. Jim's first appeared in 12 stories in Pluck in 1906-1907, before moving permanently to The Gem in 1907.
These early stories centred around Jack Blake & Co at St. Jim's, in the same way that the early Tom Merry stories in the Gem centred around Tom Merry at Clavering School, and were by-lined Chas Hamilton!
However, Percy Griffiths, editor of the Gem made the decision to amalgamate the two schools to strengthen his position, and St. Jim's in Pluck was no more - though this was clearly an arrangement that made the early Gem such a success.
